Yesteday I was feeling kinda low and thought a light hearted romantic movie would do the trick. "Mad about Dogs" was not exactly a formula film, Diane Lane and John Cusack were hard to resist for this movie buff. Turns out that the film star of the day was Christopher Plummer. He was great, no villious, vile behavior like I'm accostomed to. During the film John Cusack's character was always watching Doctor Zhivago. That got me thinking......
A few favorite tearjerkers:
Casablanca
Legends of the Fall
Out of Africa
Now Voyager
Jezebel
Sophie's Choice
Can you add some of your own to the list?

"A I - Artifical Intelligence"
"The Best Years of our Lives"
Four movies that jerk my tears for various reasons...
Sophie's Choice was a heartbreaker. How about Beaches...
Camille
Kitty Foyle
Imitation of Life
The Color Purple
Goodbye Mr. Chips
Dr. Zhivago
Life is Beautiful
A Star is Born
Steel Magnolias
Terms of Endearment
Ghost
Penny Serenade
None But the Lonely Heart
Gone With the Wind
Forgot to add Bambi to the list. One of the saddest! And I WILL NOT watch horse and dog movies. Just can't take it.
The comment about Bambi was from me. Oops.
Loved Imitation of Life, with Lana Turner. Get's me everytime!
Oh, let's add "A Patch of Blue" with a young Sidney Poitier. Merci, there are many on you list I have not seen yet. And I call myself a movie buff!
Moulin Rouge
The Joy Luck Club
Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood
Six Weeks
The English Patient
Titanic
The Patriot
And, of course, Braveheart all move me to tears. Though most don't fit into the light hearted category.

RCS,
Thanks for the visit to my Garden. I am still trying to master adding pictures. Perhaps my friend Pax will help me to show what my little piece of paradise looks like. Oh, good luck with school. I went back to school as an adult and it's the best thing I ever did! English Paatient, Patriot and Joy! Yeah! Loved them all.
Zelda-
Start with Camille (Greta Garbo and Robert Taylor) and Penny Serenade (Irene Dunne and Cary Grant), if you really want to cry (and if you haven't already seen them).
Maybe once the tourists have left the shore (and before the snow flies) we can have a ChickFlickFest at my house on a Saturday. Sweat pants, popcorn, Blockbuster, and a box of tissues. Sounds like fun, doesn't it?
I saw xiu-xiu and that reminded me of the "Long Road Home." Have you seen taht one?
Did I ever tell you the story about The English Patient?
Medbh, I agree with you, the original Wuthering Heights. I will have to check out your other suggestions next time I'm ready for some serious viewing.
